Parenting Children Still at Home

When you’re doing your best and it still doesn’t feel like enough.

What it looks like

Being stuck in parenting usually looks like this.

Many parents who feel stuck aren’t doing anything wrong. They’re doing everything, all the time, and it still doesn’t feel like enough. It looks like reacting to the same moment the same way, night after night, knowing it isn’t working, and not having the bandwidth left to figure out something different.

Where to start

The techniques that help most here.

If a specific fear about your kid is driving the stuck feeling, name it with Fear Mapping. If the next step still feels too big, shrink it with Morsels.

03 Fear MappingName the fear specifically enough that you can actually respond to it.
06 MorselsBreak the next step down until it’s small enough that you’ll actually take it.
Common questions

Good to know.

Is this parenting advice or therapy?

Neither. It won’t tell you how to parent, and it isn’t treatment. It’s a way to find the one pattern that’s actually stuck, so you’re not trying to fix everything at once.

My child needs help, not me. Is this still relevant?

It might be, but not as a substitute. If your child needs professional support, that comes first, and nothing here replaces it. What this work can do is help with your part of the situation, which is the part you can actually move. That isn’t the same as saying the problem is yours.

Often, not always

What else this tends to bring up.

This isn’t about being similar. It’s about what shows up in the same season, in Bill’s experience. If more than one of these fits right now, that’s normal, not a sign you’re more stuck than usual.
