Grief and Loss

When someone is gone and the world keeps expecting you to move on.

What it looks like

When someone is gone and the world keeps expecting you to move on.

Being stuck in grief often looks less like sadness than like paralysis. Conversations that never finished. Feelings with nowhere to go. And underneath it, a sense that closing any part of this would mean letting go of them. That’s usually the thing holding everything in place, and it’s rarely said out loud.

Where to start

The techniques that help most here.

If there’s a fear tangled up in the grief, name it with Fear Mapping. If you’re waiting to feel ready before you take any step, start with Action, Review, Course Correction.

03 Fear MappingName what you’re actually afraid of underneath the loss, so you can see it instead of just feeling it.
10 Action, Review, Course CorrectionTake the step, read what it taught you, adjust, and go again.
11 Completion, Not OverName what you’re still carrying, and close the chapter.
Common questions

Good to know.

Is this grief counseling?

No, and it isn’t a substitute for it. If you’re in the acute part of this, that support matters more than anything on this page. What’s here is for the stuck that can outlast the grief itself, when you’re not in the sharpest part of the pain anymore but still can’t move.

Does “completion” mean I have to stop grieving?

No. Completion doesn’t mean you stop feeling it. Some days will be harder than others, and certain dates and songs and conversations will bring it all back. That isn’t evidence you haven’t done the work. It’s evidence that it mattered. What completion changes is whether the grief is what’s keeping you stuck, not whether you still carry it.

Often, not always

What else this tends to bring up.

This isn’t about being similar. It’s about what shows up in the same season, in Bill’s experience. If more than one of these fits right now, that’s normal, not a sign you’re more stuck than usual.

What people find

“I was fortunate to work with Bill in the aftermath of losing my home in the Palisades Fire. In the midst of overwhelming grief and an endless stream of paperwork, insurance claims, and difficult decisions, Bill helped me find clarity and a way forward. His knowledge, compassion, and calm guidance made an impossible situation feel manageable, one step at a time. More than anything, he helped me stay grounded when I needed it most. I’m deeply grateful for his support and would recommend him to anyone facing a major life transition or crisis.”
